My Own Pepeha

For the Teaser Week at SLJ (Summer Learning Journey), I have finished Activity 1. Which means I'm up to Activity 2, and what I have to do is create my own Pepeha.

First of all, the activity was about a New Zealand filmmaker called "Taika Waititi". He is an actor, comedian, and a director. He has produced / direct, some of the popular films. Like "Boy", "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" and also "Thor : Ragnarok".

Also when he talks about himself he uses a Pepeha.

A Pepeha is something you present / recite, to show who you are and other shareable information you want to share to people.

If you want to do Teaser Week Activities like me click here:
Year 3- 5: https://sites.google.com/site/summerlearningjourney/weekly-activities/2019-teaser-week-y3-5

Year 6-8:  https://sites.google.com/site/summerlearningjourney/weekly-activities/2019-teaser-week-y6-8

Here's my pepeha, and I also did it in my language which is Tagalog (Philippine Language).

Don't worry I will show you what they mean.

English version is here, I told you it's gonna be okay...

Market Day Reflection

Hi Guys it's me Mark. I'm gonna be showing you what actually happened during / at Market Day.

First it was 1:35 p.m. everyone took their books and Silent Rad in the Staff room. Mrs. Lee was making the mixtures for the waffles, so that we only need to pour some on the waffle maker and wait for it to cook.
After she has made the mixture, everyone brought the tables, mixtures, and everything else you need to the Market Day. We put our books away, and set up for the day.

We put tables in our classroom, and opened the window. Luckily for us, our window is like a slide. So we decided we could make it a kinda Drive Through.

We took the Chocolate, Strawberry, and Maple Sauce on the table, and so did the sprinkles. The ice cream... we keep it in the ice box with ice. We made waffles, and soon we got our first customer Daniel. He wanted a waffle with chocolate sauce, sprinkles, and ice cream it was for $4.

We kept on getting more and more customers, and it was a really fun job to do. The others are making / doing Spiders (Drink), Wet sponge throwing, Pie Face, and Guessing how many Lollies are in the jar. But I was doing the waffles.

After all those, I had a chance to buy stuff. So I decided to make myself a waffle, and bought a Spider. Mrs. Lee told me to eat it outside, so that I could be advertise the waffles. After I ate it, I was back to work. And I had $2 left so I just spent it on hair spray. Which was cool.

Also I had to go outside and ask people if they want to buy waffles and I got some people.

The Bell rang at 3:01, and people left at 3:30 when we were supposed to close at 4 o'clock. After that I left, and the others helped cleaning up and packing the room. And that was the Market Day.

Also I shout Tini a Spider, 'cause before he shout me a snow - cone.

It was fun, and tiring.

Here is some photos of the Kiwi Can leaders getting thrown with Wet Sponges.

For Writing, we had been talking about Biteable. And we had to write about when Mr. Norman, needs to talk to us because of fights and other silliness. So we had to create anything about it, Acrostic Poem, Cinquain and others.

I found it hard to try and figure out how to remove the other none relevant videos that's comes with the video, and I still don't know how to remove it.

I found it easy to write down the Actostic Poem.

Here it is...

Free Writing!!! Hooray!!!

For Writing, we were allowed to do Free Writing!! Free Writing is fun. You can use any different types of writing, and your own Topics, and characters.

But... I decided to do a different writing. I decided to do different sorts of them in one Google Doc, I made an Acrostic Poem, Cinquain Poem, Recount, and Persuasive Writing.

I found it hard to do the Cinquain Poem because you need to find words that describes the Topic, and I don't know that much about Christmas.

I found it easy to write down the Recount because It's something that happened.

Here it is.

Christmas is awesome, and fun with you family.
Hovering around the snow, but sadly it’s summer here.
Rushing early in the morning, to open presents.
In my country we do caroling and knock on people’s doors.
So that means we ask our neighbours for money.
The people that also carols we give them money.
Mass is the first thing we go to so that we could celebrate.
A Holiday season with your family is fun and exciting.
Save up some money to gift people that you love.

Christmas
 Snowy, Freezy
 Exciting, Freezing, Caring
Always make’s me Happy
Xmas

 IN THE WEEKENDS!!
In the weekends, me and my dad went to an activity about Father and Son. I’m gonna tell you it was pretty fun, and some of it wasn’t pretty fun. Like telling everyone what’s the most embarrassing thing that happened to you, And some other embarrassing stuff.

What I liked about it is when we always do funny stuff, like hiding bodies in the cabinets (Our friends, and us are the ones inside the cabinet), Screaming really loud, Banging our heads on the tables, drawing each other funnily, and other sorts of fun stuff.

But the most embarrassing thing there was, you and your dad have to show your talents. So what we did was… Dance. I mean like, it wasn’t that bad at all. The maximum minutes of the talent was 2 minutes, we did the 223 dance, I got muscles like superman, omae wa mou shindeiru, and one that I don’t want to tell you (Because it’s cringy).

We also had activities, which was fun. We sons, have to draw our dad’s faces and describe them in front of everyone else. While the dads, have to draw the son’s faces and describe them in front of everyone else (Everyone had a turn, not rushing or like being the 1st over at the front).

We pass the marshmallows to our Dads, and to us. If we don’t catch it we lose and have to sit down, we also were the first to lose.

2nd to the last, we had to throw or bounce the ping pong ball inside the cup with water on it (So that it wouldn’t fall and to make the ball bounce out again). It was a bit hard, but my techniques came in handy.

Last but not least, we have the questioning your son and your dad. It was the worst activities. You have to tell them your private information like… “What was your most embarrassing moment in school?” “What’s your favourite food?” (Don’t mind that one) “Do you love your dad?” No, “Why do you like your family?” Because I do.

We also went on the playgrounds which was fun.

Alright that’s my weekends I hope you enjoyed it.

Mrs. Lee deserves to stay in St. Bernadette’s School for Christmas.

Because some students cried because Mrs. Lee is now leaving, some were sad, questionable, and other sad emotions. It doesn’t matter if she isn’t Catholic, but we could make her Catholic. If she has more years in St. Bernadette’s School, she would become Catholic because she has learn’t stuff about being a Catholic, about Jesus, and other Catholic stuff.

Or maybe we should just have Ms./ Mrs./ Mr. Lanbi/ Lanby/ Lamby, to teach us with Mrs. Lee. So that they could only work for 2 ½ days, and it would be equal so that they could rest. And not deal with us every week.

I hope you are persuaded Mr. Norman, and…. Have a good day!!!

Ok so uhhh... just letting you know, Mrs. Lee (The Teacher of Room 5 Ruma Rima) is leaving.

SLJ Practice Post

Practice Post.
For our Practice post, we had read about Maori mythology. And it's about how New Zealand was made, and it was also about Maui. Anyways, we have to tell you guys the Top 3 Facts about New Zealand.

#1. Maui was the person that formed New Zealand. He created a magical fish hook from his grandmother's jawbone, and one day he used a boat and went to the sea. He threw his magical hook, and he got a fish which is the North Island.

#2. The North Island is referred as "Te Ika a Maui" or you can say it in English "Maui's Fish", It's because Maui got the North Island using his hook and it's like a fish.
Also the South Island is referred as "Te Waka a Maui" or " Maui's canoe".

#3. The Maori name of New Zealand is "Aotearoa", it also means "Land of the Long White Cloud".

Umu and Hangi Underground Cooker

For Reading we had a passage called "Umu", and it's about a school who's having a feast and they wanted to do it Niuean style and it's called "Umu". It was a non-fictional story, and it  was a really interesting passage not gonna lie.

So the main thing I'm going to show you is we had to make our own underground cooker, for Umu and other traditional food cooking. So I decided to create my own one, it's for Hangi and Umu because I don't anymore others.

I found it hard to find a way on how to power the cooker.

I found it easy to draw and explain, It's so fun.

Just letting you know the Solar-powered shelter is connected to the cooker so that it could be powered, and the shelter can be folded so it's inside the cooker .

Here it is my invention ( I guess )

Market Day Poster

For our Integrated Learning... We had been talking about Market Day, we are planning on what we would do, make, and how much money would we get, and... what will we use it on.

We all have decided on what we will use it on, and everything else. So the main thing I'm gonna show to you guys, is the poster I made. Because we had to make a poster showing what we're making for Market Day, and we can use Google Drawing or Canva.

Just letting you know, we are making Waffles. I think people would love it because we have tasted the waffle, and plus there would be chocolate syrup, caramel / strawberry syrup, ice cream, and some sprinkles. Trust me, it's good with the chocolate syrup.

I found it hard to try and fit in the stuff, so that it wouldn't go off the page. And I tried to make as simple as possible but it was a bit hard. Also on Canva you can't change the page setup so I had to download it and put it on a Google drawing, to make it the correct page setup.

I found it easy to find pictures I could use, and It was fun like scavenging.

If you want to go to our Market Day, feel free. We're at 74 Hei Hei Rd
(St. Bernadette's School). 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m

Each plain waffle is for $3
Waffle with ice cream, syrup, and sprinkles?? $4

I hope you like it!!!

It's a bit plain but uhhh... It needs to be so that it could be good in the eye.

Virgin Mary's (Jesus's Mother) Life DLO

For Religious Education we had been talking about Mary's Life, and we were given some questions, and we had to make a DLO about it. We also needed a buddy to do so I did it with Greer.

A DLO is something you create, to write down what you know about the Topic.

I found it hard to answer some questions because its really hard to spot the answers on the verses.

I found it easy to write it down and also to make the DLO.  (My buddy did it)

Here it is...

Christmas Resolution to be a Disciple of Christ

For R.E (Religious Education) we had been talking about the past of Mary's Life (Jesus's Mother). And we had to write down on how to be a disciple of Christ and do what he does and what he tells you. So we had to make a Resolution about Christmas about it.

I found nothing hard really...

I found it easy to write it down and create it.

Here's what I made.

"I can follow Jesus’s footsteps and obeying God, and making a promise on Christmas about stuff that I should and not do. Helping others, listening and helping my family and others.

I can change and get better being good, and get better at helping. Showing Compassion, Excellence, Responsibility, and Respect. Doing what you’re supposed to do."

Thank you

Lorde Profile Page

For the Teaser Week we had to choose which activity to pick, the options were Art and Entertainment, Sports & Leisure, or Environment & Exploration. I chose Art and Entertainment.

It's about a famous New Zealand singer called "Lorde", we had to find information about her and make a profile page for her and this is what I made.

I do not own any of these images and I will leave down the URL.

(Not) The True Story of Hansel & Gretel

So... last Friday after morning tea, we used a bus as a transport so that we could watch the Hansel & Gretel ballet. I mean, It was really fun we got to watch one of the best ballet people in New Zealand. But... we only got to watch the 2nd half not the 1st half and 2nd half.

One thing though, the ballet ticket is supposed to be $50/ more for one person. The price goes higher depends on where you sit. But... we watched it for free, we were sitting inside and watching for free. We only had to pay $2 each person for the bus, even the bus fee lowered down.

So After Ballet, we went back and done.
At Monday for Writing, we had to try and make our own type of Hansel & Gretel. And we can make it as funny as we can, scary, interesting, or whatever.

I found it hard to add my own characters, and it took me a really long time to come up with what topic I should do.

I found it easy to recreate some parts.

Here's what I made. Unfinished and don't know how to fix it.

Mousetrap Invention (First one to make it? IDK)

For Reading we had been reading of a fictional story called Mousetraps. It's really fun to read because it's not like other stories where, there are only humans and not a bit of animals.

The story is about a person who has a dad and he's a softie, which means he doesn't like killing things. The person's mum doesn't like mice, but they keep on showing up and poops in the cupboard. (Let's use mouse droppings). So the dad decided to make a trap, but it keeps getting the same mouse all over again and again.

So the main thing I'm doing is making my own mouse trap!! Yes my own one. I still don't know if I was the first person to invent this but I hope so.

I found it hard to create one and figure out how to design it.
I found it easy to draw and to explain it.

I hope you like it.

Harmless Collar ( For Non-Fiction Passage "Penguin Hospital"}

For Reading we had been doing a Non-Fictional Passage, which is called "Penguin Hospital".

It's about a woman called Viv Hextall, who lives at a beach near Wellington. Last year there was a family of penguins who came and lived under their house, after the nesting season they left and went to the sea. Except one.
This one penguin was sick, and Viv Hextall took care of the penguin and made it better. Her house became the "Penguin Hospital" because many injured and sick penguins was washed up in her garden, or sometimes they walk to her doorstep.

Anyways that's what the passage is about. So what I'm trying to do is make a gadget to keep the penguins there, safe.

I found it hard to come up with my own idea, so that people wouldn't think I copied theirs.

I found it easy to draw examples, and write them down.

Here's the picture of what I did.

Descriptive Writing Prompts.

For Writing we had been doing a lot of things, one of it is Descriptive Writing Prompts, it's when you get a picture in a slideshow and you use writing stuff to describe it. Like Alliteration, Metaphor, etc.
It might not be finished but I'm trying to.

I found it hard to make 4 sentences on each picture.
I found it easy to come up with an Onomatopoeia.

Here's my work.

The Tame Eels of Anatoki Automatic Cage

For Reading we had been given a non-fiction passage, and it's called "The Tame Eels of Anatoki".
It's about a girl called Margaret McCallum ast 1914 she saw a huge eel on her parents' backyard, so she fed him. Sooner and sooner there were more than one eel, she has been feeding eels for 50 years.

Oh, and by the way we had to make our automatic cage for them that's the point.

I found it hard to think of what I should do, because there are so many good options.
I found it easy to draw.

It might be blurry, but I might find another way to make it unblurry.

National Flower Printmaking Work

For Integrated Learning we had been learning about our National Flower, The Philippines' National Flower is "Sampaguita" and it looks like this.

And there are also some other forms.

So the point is, we had to make our national flower and put 3 different layers on it. Layer 1 can the be the Petals, Layer 2 can be the Leaves (If you want to put some), and Layer 3 can be the circle in the middle.

1st you have to draw it (make sure it's 10cm x 10cm)  ,and 2nd trace it, 3rd cut it out, 4th put it on a 10x10 square paper, 5th paint it with black ink or red ink using rollers, 6th put the painted paper on a paper and press down hard so that the ink would go on the paper, 7th carefully take your flower off, Then done.
To make it easier let's call it Printmaking.

I found it hard to try and make the flower, because it's kinda hard to add different layers because my one didn't turn out the way I drawed it.

I found it easy to paint it and putting it on the paper so that it's there.

There were some mistakes, It was when 1 layer (The circle thing on a flower) it went off and so the last one looked like a flower but a shadow.

I forgot to mention that there is a competition of doing this so uhh.. yeah.

Here's what I've done so far...

Hearing Aids App

For Reading in Week 3 we had been given a fictional passage, which means we have to make a story web. But... we are not.
We had to make our own hearing aids (Drawing), so that if it gets lost we would know where to find it. For Example, there can be a button so that your hearing aids could make sound or light.

I found it hard to find an idea on what I should make.
I found it easy to draw, it's fun.

Here's my work... (The stuff might be blurry and be cut but I don't care)

Happy Hens Information Web

For Reading, the group "Charlie" has been given a non-fiction passage. It's called "Happy Hens".
It's about Zachary and his family, they own a farm which has 3,000 hens.

I found it hard to write down information in my own words because copying the words is cheating.
I found it easy to make it up and post it.

Here it is...

Celebration Of Learning Experiment DLO

For Integrated Learning last term, we had been doing some science experiments. It was really fun because there were 3 experiments, One was a Bottle Rocket, Another one was a balloon popping one, and the other is about a volcano. We had to do the bottle rocket one.
The value of the ingredients were also so cheap, you can do it almost everyday.

We also had to do it for the Celebration of Learning Day, so that we could show our parents on what we had been planning to show them.

I found it hard to write as much information I could in my own words, because it would be copying if we didn't.
I found it easy to write down the stuff and make the diagrams.
Here's what we had done...

Here's also some pictures and videos to show you guys how it went.

Here's the failure.

An image of us trying to do it...

And this is the Celebration of Learning Day Photo.

That's all the work, and stuff we did for Integrated Learning last term.
It has been really fun doing all those stuff, and also I hope you enjoyed it!!!
